Drivers License Reinstatement

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security provides a variety of convenient ways to reinstate your driving privileges: online, in person at driver service centers across the state, or by mail. In-person reinstatements are NO LONGER processed at 1150 Foster Avenue in Nashville, Please see the nearest Driver License Reinstatement Center below for reinstatement purposes.




Reinstatement Online

Use the internet for the quickest reinstatement method available. If eligible to reinstate online, a driver must know his/her Tennessee driver license number and the last name as it appears on the driver license. Additionally, online reinstatement requires a valid credit/debit card for payment.

Important: It may be necessary to cease taking applicants prior to the closing time listed below in order to complete processing by the end of the business day. For example: Closing time for reinstatements may be listed as 4:30 p.m. but we may stop taking applicants at 2:45 p.m. in order to process applicants by 4:30 p.m.

Reinsatement by Mail

To reinstate by mail or email, please include driver's full name, date of birth, social security number (if one has been issued), mailing address and phone number. Please also include the Tennessee driver license number and reason for cancellation, suspension, or revocation, if known.

Reinstatement information is available 24 hours a day via the department's automated phone system. To obtain reinstatement requirements via the automated phone system, the Tennessee driver license number is required.

Reinstatement clerks are on duty Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm CST to answer your questions.

Payment Plan Information

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security accepts payment of certain reinstatement fees by installments. Reinstatement payment plans can only be processed at certain Driver Services Centers.
