Tennessee Parks and Recreation Benchmarking Program
The Town of Kimball Parks and Recreation has successfully completed the Tier I Level of the Tennessee Parks and Recreation Benchmarking Program. The Town of Kimball Parks and Recreation has submitted an application for an LPRF Grant Application with the State of Tennessee for the Kimball Soccer, Softball/Baseball and Concessions Project.

Kimball Park
Hours are 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
Park on Industrial Blvd.

The Town constructed two ponds and preserved wetland areas.  The Town will be working to enhance the wetland areas for educational purposes in the future.  The ponds have been stocked with a variety of fish.  Fishing is permitted for catch and release with the exception of the “FREE FISHING DAY” in which the pond is stocked with catfish by the TWRA.  This event is normally held in June.

The park is known to have a great bird watching experience with birds such as:  great egrets, hawks, osprey, great blue herons, green herons, Canada geese, kingfishers, killdeer and bald eagles being seen on the public grounds.  A local citizen has released some domestic ducks which have grown and remained at the park.

The Town built and lit a walking track which is 0.6 miles from start to finish.  The loop itself is 0.2 miles.  There are benches and trash receptacles along the walking track.

The Town hosts a recreational Fall and Spring soccer league.  This year there were 115 soccer players signed up for the Fall soccer season.  Gentry Chevrolet has chosen to help sponsor our soccer program this year.  The 2010 Chevrolet Youth Soccer Program sent equipment bags filled with coaching items.  They also sent a monetary donation.  The soccer program will be selling chances for a fundraiser.  There will be one (1) grand prize winner in each participating region of the country with the grand prize being a Chevrolet Malibu or Equinox.  There will also be one (1) local winner of a Home Entertainment Package per local market.  This promotion will be a fundraiser for our soccer program.  All proceeds will benefit the Kimball Soccer League Program.  Thank you Gentry Chevrolet for your support.

Grants Funding Projects at the Kimball Park
The Town planted over 100 trees on the park site with help from a TAEP Grant with the State of Tennessee.  >Read Article in The Tennessean. Some of the trees planted were:  river birch, sycamore, white oak, tulip poplar, bald cypress and sugar maple trees.

The Town received a $175,000 Local Parks and Recreation Fund Grant from the State of Tennessee.  We are still working to fulfill this grant.  Through the 50%-50% grant the Town has built six (6) soccer fields, added bleachers, benches, soccer goals and fencing.  We have also constructed a concession stand.  The Town recently awarded a bid for the cutting in of baseball/softball fields.  This project is expected to start in October 2010. >Read article from www.tennessee.gov
